Advanced planning, risk assessment, and updates on guidance to countries hosting the event, and to those from which the attendees arise, are crucial for reducing risk, prevention, surveillance, and outbreak response.\u00a0Preventing outbreaks of influenza has always been on the radar of WHO<a id=\"back-bib4\" class=\"reference-citations__ctrl\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/lanpub\/article\/PIIS2468-2667(24)00103-8\/fulltext#bib4\" data-db-target-for=\"bib4-d37124070e381\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"bib4\"><\/a>\u00a0and of countries hosting mass gathering events.\u00a0In 2004, the emergence of the novel Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) virus, A(H5N1), had focused attention of Saudi Arabia&#8217;s government and of WHO because of the nearly 1\u00b76 million pilgrims from across the world expected for the annual Hajj pilgrimage at the time.\u00a0Fortunately, there have been no major outbreaks from any mass gathering events.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drknowhk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/1-s2.0-S2468266724001038-main.pdf\">click here<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u5c0d\u4e0d\u8d77\uff0c\u6b64\u5185\u5bb9\u53ea\u9069\u7528\u65bcEnglish\u3002By Ziad A Memish et al.
