Emerging reports suggested that the severity is not only due to SARS-CoV-2 infection, but also due to\u00a0coinfections\u00a0by other\u00a0pathogens\u00a0exhibiting symptoms like COVID-19. During the COVID-19 pandemic, simultaneous respiratory\u00a0coinfections\u00a0with various viral (Retroviridae<em>,\u00a0<\/em>Flaviviridae<em>,\u00a0<\/em>Orthomyxoviridae<em>,<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Picoviridae<\/em>) and bacterial (Mycobacteriaceae<em>,\u00a0<\/em><em>Mycoplasmataceae<\/em><em>,\u00a0<\/em>Enterobacteriaceae\u00a0and\u00a0Helicobacteraceae) families have been observed. These pathogens intensify disease severity by potentially augmenting SARSCoV-2 replication, inflammation, and modulation of\u00a0signaling pathways. Coinfection emerges as a critical determinant of COVID-19 severity, principally instigated by heightened pro-inflammatory cytokine levels, as\u00a0cytokine storm. Thereby, in co-infection scenario, the severity is also driven by the modulation of inflammatory\u00a0signaling pathways\u00a0by both pathogens possibly associated with\u00a0interleukin,\u00a0interferon, and cell death exacerbating the severity.
